Key Personnel
PhD Daniela Silva – Project Coordinator
PhD Daniela Silva (ALS Life Sciences) holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and is currently the Research and Development manager of ALS Life Sciences, being responsible for management and coordination of all R&D projects within the Biological Sciences area. She has broad experience in laboratory and field experiments regarding selection and characterization of bacteriophages.
Daniela Silva has graduated in Biochemistry by University of Coimbra (Portugal) and PhD in Biomedical Sciences by the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS), University of Porto (Portugal). In addition, Daniela also obtained the certification as coordinating investigator of practical animal research from the Portuguese National Authority for Animal Health (DGV) and participated in relevant training courses covering animal infectious diseases, diagnostics, molecular and immunological techniques, hygiene and safety. The early stages of her scientific career were developed at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IBCM) in Porto, and in the Membrane biophysics group of the Rudolf Virchow Center at the University of Wurzburg (Germany), collaborating in different research projects. Since 2013, she join ALS Life Sciences Company where she R&D Manager for Biological Sciences being responsible for management and coordination of all R&D projects of the company within the Biological Sciences area. She is author of 6 scientific papers, she has participated on one patent.
Mrs Ana Martins
Mrs. Ana Martins (ALS Life Sciences) has graduated Veterinary Medicine at the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She post-graduated Applied Microbiology at Faculty of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portugal and she also post-graduated Executive Management at the School of Advanced Study (Beiras, Portugal). At ALS Life Sciences she is Quality Manager, and Director of the Certification System as well as R&D director and has been actively engaged in bacteriophage R&D projects.
Dr. Ana Martins has graduated Veterinary Medicine at the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She post-graduated Applied Microbiology at Faculty of Biotechnology of the Catholic University of Portugal and she also post-graduated Executive Management at the School of Advanced Study (Beiras, Portugal). From 2000 to date, she has been working at Controlvet holding different internal positions including responsible of the laboratory of Biological Analysis, Quality Manager, and Director of the Certification System. Further, at present, she is also working as Management Director at Fullsense (Portugal). Today, and from 2012, she is also working at Betechin (Portugal) as responsible of INFOODSAFE project. During her professional career she also worked as sanitary inspector, technical expert and veterinarian. She has actively participated as trainer in different Food Safety, Sampling and Analyzing Methods, Agriculture and Microbiology training programmes. Her scientific expertise also includes participation in international conferences and seminars. Since 2015 she is employed at ALS Life Sciences and she is currently holding the Director of the Technical, Quality and R+D+I department position and she is also in charge of the Diagnostic unit.
Ana Patricia Henriques, MSc
Ana Henriques has graduated Biology and obtained a Master degree in Molecular Microbiology the University of Aveiro (Portugal) in 2008. During her Master Thesis, Ana was engaged in the use of bacteriophages to control Salmonella in poultry farming. Since 2009 Ana Patricia is Manager of the Molecular Biology Unit at ALS Life Sciences, From 2005 to date she has been also working as collaborative researcher for the R&D department at Controlvet, being mainly involved in Bacteriophage Research Projects. Her professional training included training in different molecular (PCR, PCR-RFLP, Real-Time PCR, DNA sequencing) and immunological (ELISA) laboratory assays, veterinary diagnostic, as well as development and management of biotechnological research projects. She is author of several publications in relevant JCR journals and one chapter in a book”
